Recently came back to Lanzhou Noodles with my friend as the weather gets colder.
We were seated promptly, given menus & water. The waitresses are able to communicate in English - or, you can always point to the item on the menu that you want.
The food did take a little to come out but still within a good time frame.
Ordered:
1. Deep-Fried Chicken Noodle: this was a nice surprise. There was a generous portion of chicken & noodles! The noodles were filling. The aromatic hot sauce on provided on the side is a must add to your noodles. I had enough to take home and eat for dinner.
2. Deep-Fried Milk: This was okay. Not something I'd get again but not bad.
Service here is excellent. There's always someone bustling about that you can flag down. The waitress asked us at the end if we didn't like the deep-fried milk because we weren't able to finish it. You can ask to split bills & they take credit and debit cards. -

Ordered a soy milk, a classic noodle with beef and an appetizer of fried fish with jam.
When I ordered the soy milk beverage, the menu didn't give a choice of hot and cold. At the same time, I wasn't aware about it and assumed that the beverage would be cold because it's summer. I was astonished when the waiter came with a cup of hot soy milk. There's a bit misunderstanding. Nevertheless, the soy milk tasted delicious.
The presentation of the bowl of classic noodle with beef looked awesome. The noodle was chewy and there were spices in the broth.
Among the three orders, I loved the deep fried fish with jam the most. The jam was actually sweet and sour sauce. There were no bones in the fish. The outside of the fish tasted crispy, just like the filet o fish at McDonalds. It blended so well with the sweet and sour sauce. Love it so much! -

This shop serves pretty decent bowls of hand-pulled noodles. The quality of the broth is rich and savoury. We ordered the signature Hand-Pulled Noodle with Beef and the Hand-Pulled Noodle with BBQ Pork. I personally enjoyed the beef noodles more since the beef was quite tender. The noodles were a perfect al dente and I enjoyed my meal.
As appetizers, we got the Enoki Beef Rolls and the Shredded Potato. The enoki rolls had good flavour to it, but the beef was too dry for me. The potato salad was sweet and sour. I liked how refreshing it was.
This place makes for a quick ramen fix as prices are fair. They also have an expansive side dish menu in addition to their noodle menu. -

It was oooookay. Like really just okay. Got the hand- pulled noodles with pork belly and pork tongue. Honestly it wasn't terrible but it wasn't amazing and I personally wouldn't call it ramen? When I think about ramen...I wouldn't think of this as ramen. So there's that. But commenting on the hand pulled noodles itself- it was pretty good and fresh tasting. Again, wasn't bad but it wasn't remarkable.
Also had the oysters (bland, wouldn't recommend, and barely any oyster meat in it) and the fried chicken. The fried chicken was okay but also nothing remarkable.
Overall an okay place for food in my opinion. -

So the original plan was to get our Ramen on at Sansotei a few doors down, but they had a line out the door on a chilly Sat. night. I'd say probably 12+ hungry ramen-er's....A worker comes outside to greet us and asked if we wanted to put our name on the list with an approximate 20-30 min wait but we didn't feel like waiting...so... we walked a few doors down to 1915, peek into the super small dining room and a nice man notices us eyeballing the joint and immediately tells us he has a table! Yay!
So here we are. I swear every restaurant up and down this street is tiny, narrow, tiny, narrow & tiny. (I'm not from here, can you tell?) And every tiny restaurant is packed with sardines... I mean people. It was a full house (more like a full studio apt) and we got a tiny table right across from the kitchen..actually right next to it.
Our server hands us a pen, paper pad and menus. No small talk. I figured.. we write down our orders and viola, our food will arrive. How smart am I?
We ordered:
Fried calamari app (pretty good)
A06 Classic hand pulled noodle with fried chicken (served separately) and soft fried egg. First things first, I am not a ramen noodle connoisseur. I enjoy it immensely, but can't say I've eaten enough of it.
I was amazed by how huge my bowl was (another testament to how often I eat ramen). There was no way I could finish it in one sitting and I didn't.
Broth was clear with good, simple flavor, not heavy or strong on pork and herbs. Noodles were very good & firm (hefty serving) and had a nice chew. AND..they offer 4 different noodle types. Probably some of the finest hand noodles I've tried (not that I've tried a ton, mind you).
My bf had the ramen with pork hock (?) and enjoyed.
We both had massive leftovers. Service was quick. Prices are dirt cheap. Lots of good menu offerings. Space is on the super casual dingy side, but who cares. You're really just here for some great affordable hand pulled noodles to fill your belly!
Come hungry.
